Written Christmas Day 1797 Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCDEFGHIJKLMK NDOKPQRKSTUVW

I am a widow'd thing now thou art goneA
Now thou art gone my own familiar friendB
Companion sister help mate counsellorC
Alas that honour'd mind whose sweet reproofD
And meekest wisdom in times past have smooth'dE
The unfilial harshness of my foolish speechF
And made me loving to my parents oldG
Why is this so ah God why is this soH
That honour'd mind become a fearful blankI
Her senses lock'd up and herself kept outJ
From human sight or converse while so manyK
Of the foolish sort are left to roam at largeL
Doing all acts of folly and sin and shameM
Thy paths are mysteryK
-
-
Yet I will not thinkN
Sweet friend but we shall one day meet and liveD
In quietness and die so fearing GodO
Or if not and these false suggestions beK
A fit of the weak nature loth to partP
With what it lov'd so long and held so dearQ
If thou art to be taken and I leftR
More sinning yet unpunish'd save in theeK
It is the will of God and we are clayS
In the potter's hands and at the worst are madeT
From absolute nothing vessels of disgraceU
Till his most righteous purpose wrought in usV
Our purified spirits find their perfect restW
