The Rainbow Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis
Rhyme Scheme: AABBCCCDEEFFGGFFCCHH IIFFJJIIKKLLMMFFFANNAfter the tempest in the sky | A |
How sweet yon rainbow to the eye | A |
Come my Matilda now while some | B |
Few drops of rain are yet to come | B |
In this honeysuckle bower | C |
Safely sheltered from the shower | C |
We may count the colours o'er | C |
Seven there are there are no more | D |
Each in each so finely blended | E |
Where they begin or where are ended | E |
The finest eye can scarcely see | F |
A fixed thing it seems to be | F |
But while we speak see how it glides | G |
Away and now observe it hides | G |
Half of its perfect arch now we | F |
Scarce any part of it can see | F |
What is colour If I were | C |
A natural philosopher | C |
I would tell you what does make | H |
This meteor every colour take | H |
But an unlearned eye may view | I |
Nature's rare sights and love them too | I |
Whenever I a rainbow see | F |
Each precious tint is dear to me | F |
For every colour find I there | J |
Which flowers which fields which ladies wear | J |
My favourite green the grass's hue | I |
And the fine deep violet blue | I |
And the pretty pale blue bell | K |
And the rose I love so well | K |
All the wondrous variations | L |
Of the tulips pinks carnations | L |
This woodbine here both flower and leaf | M |
'Tis a truth that's past belief | M |
That every flower and every tree | F |
And every living thing we see | F |
Every face which we espy | F |
Every cheek and every eye | A |
In all their tints in every shade | N |
Are from the rainbow's colours made | N |
