SISTERA
Do my dearest brother JohnB
Let that butterfly aloneC
-
BROTHERA
What harm now do I doD
You're always making such a noiseE
-
SISTERA
O fie John none but naughty boysE
Say such rude words as youD
-
BROTHERA
Because you're always speaking sharpF
On the same thing you always harpF
A bird one may not catchG
Nor find a nest nor angle neitherA
Nor from the peacock pluck a featherA
But you are on the watchH
To moralize and lecture stillI
-
SISTERA
And ever lecture John I willI
When such sad things I hearJ
But talk not now of what is pastK
The moments fly away too fastK
Though endlessly they seem to lastK
To that poor soul in fearL
-
BROTHERA
Well soon I say I'll let it looseM
But sister you talk like a gooseM
There's no soul in a flyN
-
SISTERA
It has a form and fibres fineO
Were tempered by the hand divineO
Who dwells beyond the skyN
Look brother you have hurt its wingP
And plainly by its flutteringP
You see it's in distressQ
Gay painted coxcomb spangled beauR
A butterfly is called you knowR
That's always in full dressQ
The finest gentleman of allS
Insects he is he gave a ballS
You know the poet wroteT
Let's fancy this the very sameU
And then you'll own you've been to blameU
To spoil his silken coatT
-
BROTHERA
Your dancing spangled powdered beauR
Look through the air I've let him goR
And now we're friends againV
As sure as he is in the airW
From this time Ann I will take careW
And try to be humaneX
