A gay young knight in Burley stoodA
Beside him pawed his steed so goodA
His hands he wrung as he were woodA
With waiting for his love OB
-
'Oh will she come or will she stayC
Or will she waste the weary dayC
With fools who wish her far awayC
And hate her for her love O '-
-
But by there came a mighty boarD
His jowl and tushes red with goreD
And on his curled snout he boreD
A bracelet rich and rare OB
-
The knight he shrieked he ran he flewE
He searched the wild wood through and throughE
But found nought save a mantle blueE
Low rolled within the brake OB
-
He twined the wild briar red and whiteF
Upon his head the garland dightF
The green leaves withered black as nightF
And burnt into his brain OB
-
A fire blazed up within his breastF
He mounted on an aimless questF
He laid his virgin lance in restF
And through the forest drove OB
-
By Rhinefield and by OsmondsleighG
Through leat and furze brake fast drove heH
Until he saw the homeless seaH
That called with all its waves OB
-
He laughed aloud to hear the roarD
And rushed his horse adown the shoreD
The deep surge rolled him o'er and o'erI
And swept him down the tide OB
-
