The Delectable Day Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCB DEFE GHAH IJKL DMNM AEFE F

The boy on the famous gray ponyA
Just bidding good bye at the doorB
Plucking up maiden heart for the fencesC
Where his brother won honour of yoreB
-
The walk to 'the Meet' with fair childrenD
And women as gentle as gayE
Ah how do we male hogs in armourF
Deserve such companions as theyE
-
The afternoon's wander to windwardG
To meet the dear boy coming backH
And to catch down the turns of the valleyA
The last weary chime of the packH
-
The climb homeward by park and by moorlandI
And through the fir forests againJ
While the south west wind roars in the gloamingK
Like an ocean of seething champagneL
-
And at night the septette of BeethovenD
And the grandmother by in her chairM
And the foot of all feet on the sofaN
Beating delicate time to the airM
-
Ah God a poor soul can but thank TheeA
For such a delectable dayE
Though the fury the fool and the swindlerF
To morrow again have their wayE
-
-
Eversley th NovemberF
