Come hearken hearken gentles allA
Come hearken unto meB
And I'll sing you a song of a Wood LyonC
Came swimming out over the seaB
-
He ranged west he ranged eastD
And far and wide ranged heB
He took his bite out of every beastD
Lives under the greenwood treeB
-
Then by there came a silly old wolfE
'And I'll serve you ' quoth heB
Quoth the Lyon 'My paw is heavy enoughF
So what wilt thou do for me '-
-
Then by there came a cunning old foxG
'And I'll serve you ' quoth heB
Quoth the Lyon 'My wits are sharp enoughF
So what wilt thou do for me '-
-
Then by there came a white white doveH
Flew off Our Lady's kneeB
Sang 'It's I will be your true true loveH
If you'll be true to me '-
-
'And what will you do you bonny white doveH
And what will you do for me '-
'Oh it's I'll bring you to Our Lady's loveH
In the ways of chivalrie '-
-
He followed the dove that Wood LyonC
By mere and wood and woldI
Till he is come to a perfect knightJ
Like the Paladin of oldI
-
He ranged east he ranged westK
And far and wide ranged heB
And ever the dove won him honour and fameL
In the ways of chivalrieB
-
Then by there came a foul old sowM
Came rookling under the treeB
And 'It's I will be true love to youN
If you'll be true to me '-
-
'And what wilt thou do thou foul old sowM
And what wilt thou do for me '-
'Oh there hangs in my snout a jewel of goldI
And that will I give to thee '-
-
He took to the sow that Wood LyonC
To the rookling sow took heB
And the dove flew up to Our Lady's bosomO
And never again throve heB
