21st September 1870 Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABAC DEDE FGFG HIHJ

Speak low speak little who may singA
While yonder cannon thunders boomB
Watch shuddering what each day may bringA
Nor 'pipe amid the crack of doom 'C
-
And yet the pines sing overheadD
The robins by the alder poolE
The bees about the garden bedD
The children dancing home from schoolE
-
And ever at the loom of BirthF
The mighty Mother weaves and singsG
She weaves fresh robes for mangled earthF
She sings fresh hopes for desperate thingsG
-
And thou too if through Nature's calmH
Some strain of music touch thine earsI
Accept and share that soothing balmH
And sing though choked with pitying tearsJ
