Rhyme Scheme: ABCD EFGH IEJK EEBE ELME KEKN OPEE

quot Don't overdo it quot Dad yelled watching meA
Play shortstop collect stamps and shellsB
Roll on the grass laughing until I peed my pantsC
quot Screw him quot I said and grabbed every cowryD
-
I could find hogged all the books I couldE
From Heights Library wore out the baseballF
Diamond dawn to dusk and parents in DuluthG
Gorged on bountiful Candy dusk to dawnH
-
Not until a Committee wrote of my poemsI
quot Enthusiasm should be tempered quotE
Did I change my song I write nowJ
The way I live calm and sober steeringK
-
Toward the Golden Mean The CommitteeE
Was right to withhold funds I'd have boughtE
A hundred box turtles with lemon speckled shellsB
Flyfished for rainbows six months straightE
-
Flown to the Great Barrier Reef and divedE
Non stop among pink coral and marble conesL
Living on chocolate malts peaches and barbecueM
I'd have turned into a ski bum marriedE
-
Ten women in ten states written nothingK
Poetry would glance at twice insteadE
Of rising at as I do now writingK
'Til noon about matters serious and deepN
-
Teaching 'til eating a low fat mealO
High in fiber and cruciferous vegetablesP
Then bed by alarm clock setE
Five minutes late my one indulgence of the dayE
