Expectans Expectavi Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: AABB CCDD EEFF GGHH IIJJ

From morn to midnight all day throughA
I laugh and play as others doA
I sin and chatter just the sameB
As others with a different nameB
-
And all year long upon the stageC
I dance and tumble and do rageC
So vehemently I scarcely seeD
The inner and eternal meD
-
I have a temple I do notE
Visit a heart I have forgotE
A self that I have never metF
A secret shrine and yet and yetF
-
This sanctuary of my soulG
Unwitting I keep white and wholeG
Unlatched and lit if Thou should'st careH
To enter or to tarry thereH
-
With parted lips and outstretched handsI
And listening ears Thy servant standsI
Call Thou early call Thou lateJ
To Thy great service dedicateJ
