My Father Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCDEE BCFEEEGEGE EHCI HEDJ BEE DKKFE LMDDE

was a truly amazing manA
he pretended to beB
richC
even though we lived on beans and mush and weeniesD
when we sat down to eat he saidE
quot not everybody can eat like this quotE
-
and because he wanted to be rich or because he actuallyB
thought he was richC
he always voted RepublicanF
and he voted for Hoover against RooseveltE
and he lostE
and then he voted for Alf Landon against RooseveltE
and he lost againG
saying quot I don't know what this world is coming toE
now we've got that god damned Red in there againG
and the Russians will be in our backyard next quotE
-
I think it was my father who made me decide toE
become a bumH
I decided that if a man like that wants to be richC
then I want to be poorI
-
and I became a bumH
I lived on nickles and dimes and in cheap rooms andE
on park benchesD
I thought maybe the bums knew somethingJ
-
but I found out that most of the bums wanted to beB
rich tooE
they had just failed at thatE
-
so caught between my father and the bumsD
I had no place to goK
and I went there fast and slowK
never voted RepublicanF
never votedE
-
buried himL
like an oddity of the earthM
like a hundred thousand odditiesD
like millions of other odditiesD
wastedE
