The Poison Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABBCB DEEEE EFFGH CIJCK

Wine can clothe the most sordid holeA
in miraculous luxuryB
and let many a fabulous portico float freeB
in the gold of its red glowC
like a setting sun in the sky's cloudy seaB
-
Opium expands things without boundariesD
extends the limitlessE
makes time profounder deepens voluptuousnessE
fills the soul beyond its capacitiesE
with the pleasures of gloom and of darknessE
-
None of that equals the poison that flowsE
from your eyes your eyes of greenF
lakes where mirrored my trembling soul is seenF
my dreams come flocking a hostG
to quench their thirst in the bitter streamH
-
None of that equals the dreadful marvel thoughC
of your saliva's venomI
that plunges my soul remorseless into oblivionJ
and causing vertigoC
rolls it swooning towards the shores of doomK
