The Evil Monk Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABAB CDCD EFG HIG

The ancient cloisters on their lofty wallsA
Had holy Truth in painted frescoes shownB
And seeing these the pious in those hallsA
Felt their cold lone austereness less aloneB
-
At that time when Christ's seed flowered all aroundC
More than one monk forgotten in his hourD
Taking for studio the burial groundC
Glorified Death with simple faith and powerD
-
And my soul is a sepulchre where IE
Ill cenobite have spent eternityF
On the vile cloister walls no pictures riseG
-
O when may I cast off this wearinessH
And make the pageant of my old distressI
For these hands labour pleasure for these eyesG
