The Elevation Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: AAAA BABB ACDA ABBA ACDA

Above the valleys over rills and meresA
Above the mountains woods the oceans cloudsA
Beyond the sun past all ethereal boundsA
Beyond the borders of the starry spheresA
-
My agile spirit how you take your flightB
Like a strong swimmer swooning on the seaA
You gaily plough the vast immensityB
With manly inexpressible delightB
-
F y far above this morbid vaporous placeA
Go cleanse yourself in higher finer airC
And drink up like a pure divine liqueurD
Bright fire out of clear and limpid spaceA
-
Beyond ennui past troubles and ordealsA
That load our dim existence with their weightB
Happy the strong winged man who makes the greatB
Leap upward to the bright and peaceful fieldsA
-
The man whose thoughts like larks take to their wingsA
Each morning freely speeding through the airC
Who soars above this life interpreterD
Of flowers' speech the voice of silent thingsA
