St Peter's Denial Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABBA CADE AFFG HAAH IJKL MNNA OPPO QRRQ

What then has God to say of cursing heresiesA
Which rise up like a flood at precious angels' feetB
A self indulgent tyrant stuffed with wine and meatB
He sleeps to soothing sounds of monstrous blasphemiesA
-
The sobs of martyred saints and groans of tortured menC
No doubt provide the Lord with rapturous symphoniesA
And yet the heavenly hosts are scarcely even pleasedD
In spite of all the blood men dedicate to themE
-
Jesus do you recall the grove of olive treesA
Where on your knees in your simplicity you prayedF
To Him who sat and heard the noise the nailing madeF
In your live flesh as villains did their awful deedG
-
When you saw spitting on your pure divinityH
Scum from the kitchens outcasts guardsmen in disgraceA
And felt the crown of thorns around your gentle faceA
Piercing your temples home of our HumanityH
-
When like a target you were raised above the crowdI
When the appalling wrench of broken body's weightJ
Stretched out your spreading arms and as your blood and sweatK
Streamed down your body and across your pallid browL
-
Did you remember all the days of brilliant calmM
You went forth to fulfil the promise made by GodN
And on a gentle ass triumphantly you trodN
The streets all strewn with blooms and branches of the palmsA
-
When with your heart so full of hope and far from fearO
You lashed with all your might that money changing lotP
And were at last the master and then did notP
Chagrin strike through your side more keenly than the spearO
-
Believe it as for me I'll go out satisfiedQ
From this world where the deed and dream do not accordR
Would I might wield the sword and perish by the swordR
Peter rejected Jesus he was justifiedQ
