Punishment For Pride Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: AABCAADDEEFGHI JJKLMMAHNNOP

When in brave days of old TheologyA
Flourished with utmost sap and energyA
A celebrated doctor it is saidB
When he had force fed some indifferent headsC
Had stirred them in their blackest lethargyA
Vaulted himself towards holy ecstasyA
By mystic processes he scarcely knewD
A state pure souls alone were welcomed toD
This man who'd tried to grasp beyond his reachE
Flushed with Satanic pride made bold in speechE
'O little Jesus I have raised you highF
But if I chose to take the other sideG
Thou helpless one I'd bring thy glory lowH
The Christ child an outlandish embryo 'I
-
At once his Reason's sentence had begunJ
Shrouded in crepe was this once blazing sunJ
All chaos rolled in this intelligenceK
Before a temple ordered opulentL
Where he'd held forth in pomp beneath its domeM
Now in him silence darkness made their homeM
As in a cellar vault without a keyA
And when he crossed the fields unseeinglyH
As unaware of winter as of springN
Useless and ugly as a womout thingN
He was no better than a common beastO
And was the jeering children's special treatP
