-
-
The Living TorchH
-
They walk in front of me those eyes aglow with lightI
Which a learned Angel has rendered magneticF
They walk divine brothers who are my brothers tooJ
Casting into my eyes diamond scintillationsB
-
They save me from all snares and from all grievous sinK
They guide my steps along the pathway of BeautyE
They are my servitors I am their humble slaveC
My whole being obeys this living torchH
-
Bewitching eyes you shine like mystical candlesB
That burn in broad daylight the sunL
Reddens but does not quench their eerie flameE
-
While they celebrate Death you sing the AwakeningF
You walk singing the awakening of my soulM
Bright stars whose flame no sun can paleG

The Living TorchH
-
Those lit eyes go before me in full viewJ
Some cunning angel magnetised their lightI
Heavenly twins yet my own brothers tooJ
Shaking their diamond blaze into my sightI
-
My steps from every trap or sin to saveC
In the strait road of Beauty they conduct meE
They are my servants and I am their slaveC
Obedient in whatever they instruct meE
-
Delightful eyes you burn with mystic raysB
Like candles in broad day red suns may blazeB
But cannot quench their still fantastic lightI
-
Those candles burn for death but you for wakingF
You sing the dawn that in my soul is breakingF
Stars which no sun could ever put to flightI
-

-
they march before me filled with light divineP
those eyes turned magnets by some angel wiseB
they lead my Heavenly Twins good brothers mineP
whose jewelled fires hold my gazing eyesB

they guard from every sin and error graveC
they show my feet the path to Beauty's porchH
they are my servitors and I their slaveC
wholly obedient to their heavenly torchH
-
enchanted eyes ye have the mystic rayN
of tapers lit at noon the fire of dayN
reddens but quenches not their eery glowD

'tis Death they sing while ye extol the MornQ
ye point the way and chant a soul rebornQ
stars that no sun can pale nor overthrowD
