Hymn To Beauty Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCB DEFE GHIJ KLMN OPQP RSTS MUVU

O Beauty do you visit from the skyA
Or the abyss infernal and divineB
Your gaze bestows both kindnesses and crimesC
So it is said you act on us like wineB
-
Your eye contains the evening and the dawnD
You pour out odours like an evening stormE
Your kiss is potion from an ancient jarF
That can make heroes cold and children warmE
-
Are you of heaven or the nether worldG
Charmed Destiny your pet attends your walkH
You scatter joys and sorrows at your whimI
And govern all and answer no man's callJ
-
Beauty you walk on corpses mocking themK
Horror is charming as your other gemsL
And Murder is a trinket dancing thereM
Lovingly on your naked belly's skinN
-
You are a candle where the mayfly diesO
In flames blessing this fire's deadly bloomP
The panting lover bending to his loveQ
Looks like a dying man who strokes his tombP
-
What difference then from heaven or from hellR
O Beauty monstrous in simplicityS
If eye smile step can open me the wayT
To find unknown sublime infinityS
-
Angel or siren spirit I don't careM
As long as velvet eyes and perfumed headU
And glimmering motions o my queen can makeV
The world less dreadful and the time less deadU
