Don Juan In Hades Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCB CDCD EFEF GHGH ICIC

When Juan sought the subterranean floodA
And paid his obolus on the Stygian shoreB
Charon the proud and sombre beggar stoodC
With one strong vengeful hand on either oarB
-
With open robes and bodies agonisedC
Lost women writhed beneath that darkling skyD
There were sounds as of victims sacrificedC
Behind him all the dark was one long cryD
-
And Sganarelle with laughter claimed his pledgeE
Don Luis with trembling finger in the airF
Showed to the souls who wandered in the sedgeE
The evil son who scorned his hoary hairF
-
Shivering with woe chaste Elvira the whileG
Near him untrue to all but her till nowH
Seemed to beseech him for one farewell smileG
Lit with the sweetness of the first soft vowH
-
And clad in armour a tall man of stoneI
Held firm the helm and clove the gloomy floodC
But staring at the vessel's track aloneI
Bent on his sword the unmoved hero stoodC
