Surrounded by flasks and by spangled lamesA
All matter of sumptuous goodsA
Marble sculptures fine paintings and perfumed peignoirsA
That trail in voluptuous foldsA
-
In a room like a greenhouse both stuffy and warmB
An atmosphere heavy with deathC
Where arrangements of flowers encoffined in glassA
Exhale their ultimate breathC
-
A headless cadaver spills out like a streamD
On a pillow adorning the bedE
A flow of red blood which the linen drinks upF
With a thirsty meadow's greedG
-
Like pale apprehensions born in the darkH
And that enchain the eyesA
The head the pile of its ebony maneI
With precious jewels entwinedJ
-
On the night table like a ranunculusA
Reposes and a gazeA
Mindless and vague and as black as the duskK
Escapes from the pallid faceA
-
On the bed the nude torso displays without shameL
And most lasciviouslyM
The secret magnificence fatal allureN
Of its nature's artistryO
-
On the leg a pink stocking adorned with gold clocksA
Remains like a souvenirP
The garter a diamond blazing eyeQ
Hurls a glance that is cold and severeP
-
The singular aspect of this solitudeR
Like the portrait hung aboveS
With eyes as enticing as languorous poseA
Reveals an unspeakable loveS
-
Perverse entertainments and culpable joysA
Full of devilish intimaciesA
Which would make the dark angels swarm with delightT
In the folds of the draperiesA
-
And yet to notice the elegant linesA
Of the shoulder lean and litheU
The haunch a bit pointed the turn of the waistV
Like a snake aroused to strikeW
-
She is still in her youth Did her sickness of soulM
And her senses gnawed by ennuiO
Open to her that depraved pack of lustsA
And encourage them willinglyO
-
That intractable man whom alive you could notX
Despite so much love satisfyQ
Did he there on your still and amenable corpseA
His appetite gratifyQ
-
Tell me cadaver and by your stiff hairY
Raising with feverous handZ
Terrible head did he paste on your teethA2
His kisses again and againB2
-
Far away from the world from the taunts of the mobC2
Far from the prying policeA
Strange creature within your mysterious tombD2
I bid you to sleep in peaceA
-
Your bridegroom may roam but the image of youE2
Stands by him wherever he restsA
As much as you doubtless the man will be trueE2
And faithful even till deathC
