What is that great bird sister tell meA
Perched high on the top of the cragB
'T is the cormorant dear little brotherC
The fishermen call it the shagB
-
But what does it there sister tell meA
Sitting lonely against the black skyB
It has settled to rest little brotherC
It hears the wild gale wailing highB
-
But I am afraid of it sisterC
For over the sea and the landD
It gazes so black and so silentE
Little brother hold fast to my handD
-
Oh what was that sister The thunderC
Did the shag bring the storm and the cloudF
The wind and the rain and the lightningB
Little brother the thunder roars loudF
-
Run fast for the rain sweeps the oceanG
Look over the light house it streamsH
And the lightning leaps red and above usI
The gulls fill the air with their screamsH
-
O'er the beach o'er the rocks running swiftlyA
The little white cottage they gainJ
And safely they watch from the windowK
The dance and the rush of the rainJ
-
But the shag kept his place on the headlandK
And when the brief storm had gone byB
He shook his loose plumes and they saw himL
Rise splendid and strong in the skyB
-
Clinging fast to the gown of his sisterC
The little boy laughed as he flewM
He is gone with the wind and the lightningB
And I am not frightened are youM
