Song Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABCDCD EFEFCDCD GHIHJDJD

WE sail toward evening s lonely starA
That trembles in the tender blueB
One single cloud a dusky barA
Burnt with dull carmine through and throughB
Slow smouldering in the summer skyC
Lies low along the fading westD
How sweet to watch its splendors dieC
Wave cradled thus and wind caressedD
-
The soft breeze freshens leaps the sprayE
To kiss our cheeks with sudden cheerF
Upon the dark edge of the bayE
Lighthouses kindle far and nearF
And through the warm deeps of the skyC
Steal faint star clusters while we restD
In deep refreshment thou and IC
Wave cradled thus and wind caressedD
-
How like a dream are earth and heavenG
Star beam and darkness sky and seaH
Thy face pale in the shadowy evenI
Thy quiet eyes that gaze on meH
O realize the moment s charmJ
Thou dearest we are at life s bestD
Folded in God s encircling armJ
Wave cradled thus and wind caressedD
