Seaward To____ Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis
Rhyme Scheme: ABAB CDCD EFGF HIHI JKJK LDLD MNMN ODHDHOW long it seems since that mild April night | A |
When leaning from the window you and I | B |
Heard clearly ringing from the shadowy bight | A |
The loon s unearthly cry | B |
- | |
Southwest the wind blew million little waves | C |
Ran rippling round the point in mellow tune | D |
But mournful like the voice of one who raves | C |
That laughter of the loon | D |
- | |
We called to him while blindly through the haze | E |
Uprose the meagre moon behind us slow | F |
So dim the fleet of boats we scarce could trace | G |
Moored lightly just below | F |
- | |
We called and lo he answered Half in fear | H |
We sent the note back Echoing rock and bay | I |
Made melancholy music far and near | H |
Sadly it died away | I |
- | |
That schooner you remember Flying ghost | J |
Her canvas catching every wandering beam | K |
Aerial noiseless past the glimmering coast | J |
She glided like a dream | K |
- | |
Would we were leaning from your window now | L |
Together calling to the eerie loon | D |
The fresh wind blowing care from either brow | L |
This sumptuous night of June | D |
- | |
So many sighs load this sweet inland air | M |
T is hard to breathe nor can we find relief | N |
However lightly touched we all must share | M |
This nobleness of grief | N |
- | |
But sighs are spent before they reach your ear | O |
Vaguely they mingle with the water s rune | D |
No sadder sound salutes you than the clear | H |
Wild laughter of the loon | D |
