Off Shore Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis
Rhyme Scheme: AAB CCB DDE FFE GGH IIH JJE KKL MMN OOP| Rock little boat beneath the quiet sky | A |
| Only the stars behod us where we lie | A |
| Only the stars and yonder brightening moon | B |
| - | |
| On the wide sea to night alone are we | C |
| The sweet bright summer day dies silently | C |
| Its glowing sunset will have faded soon | B |
| - | |
| Rock softly little boat the while I mark | D |
| The far off gliding sails distinct and dark | D |
| Across the west pass steadily and slow | E |
| - | |
| But on the eastern waters sad they change | F |
| And vanish dream like gray and cold and strange | F |
| And no one knoweth whither they may go | E |
| - | |
| We care not we drifting with wind and tide | G |
| While glad waves darken upon either side | G |
| Save where the moon sends silver sparkles down | H |
| - | |
| And yonder slender stream of changing light | I |
| Now white now crimson tremulously bright | I |
| Where dark the lighthouse stands with fiery crown | H |
| - | |
| Thick falls the dew soundless on sea and shore | J |
| It shines on little boat and idle oar | J |
| Wherever moonbeams touch with tranquil glow | E |
| - | |
| The waves are full of whispers wild and sweet | K |
| They call to me incessantly they beat | K |
| Along the boat from stern to curv d prow | L |
| - | |
| Comes the careering wind blows back my hair | M |
| All damp with dew to kiss me unaware | M |
| Murmuring Thee I love and passes on | N |
| - | |
| Sweet sounds on rocky shores the distant rote | O |
| O could we float forever little boat | O |
| Under the blissful sky drifting alone | P |
