Off Shore Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: AAB CCB DDE FFE GGH IIH JJE KKL MMN OOP

Rock little boat beneath the quiet skyA
Only the stars behod us where we lieA
Only the stars and yonder brightening moonB
-
On the wide sea to night alone are weC
The sweet bright summer day dies silentlyC
Its glowing sunset will have faded soonB
-
Rock softly little boat the while I markD
The far off gliding sails distinct and darkD
Across the west pass steadily and slowE
-
But on the eastern waters sad they changeF
And vanish dream like gray and cold and strangeF
And no one knoweth whither they may goE
-
We care not we drifting with wind and tideG
While glad waves darken upon either sideG
Save where the moon sends silver sparkles downH
-
And yonder slender stream of changing lightI
Now white now crimson tremulously brightI
Where dark the lighthouse stands with fiery crownH
-
Thick falls the dew soundless on sea and shoreJ
It shines on little boat and idle oarJ
Wherever moonbeams touch with tranquil glowE
-
The waves are full of whispers wild and sweetK
They call to me incessantly they beatK
Along the boat from stern to curv d prowL
-
Comes the careering wind blows back my hairM
All damp with dew to kiss me unawareM
Murmuring Thee I love and passes onN
-
Sweet sounds on rocky shores the distant roteO
O could we float forever little boatO
Under the blissful sky drifting aloneP
