May Morning Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis
Rhyme Scheme: AABB CCDD EEFF GGDD DDHH IIHHWARM wild rainy wind blowing fitfully | A |
Stirring dreamy breakers on the slumberous May sea | A |
What shall fail to answer thee What thing shall withstand | B |
The spell of thine enchantment flowing over sea and land | B |
- | |
All along the swamp edge in the rain I go | C |
All about my head thou the loosened locks dost blow | C |
Like the German goose girl in the fairy tale | D |
I watch across the shining pool my flock of ducks that sail | D |
- | |
Redly gleam the rose haws dripping with the wet | E |
Fruit of sober autumn glowing crimson yet | E |
Slender swords of iris leaves cut the water clear | F |
And light green creeps the tender grass thick spreading far and near | F |
- | |
Every last year s stalk is set with brown or golden studs | G |
All the boughs of bayberry are thick with scented buds | G |
Islanded in turfy velvet where the ferns uncurl | D |
Lo the large white duck s egg glimmers like a pearl | D |
- | |
Softly sing the billows rushing whispering low | D |
Freshly oh deliciously the warm wild wind doth blow | D |
Plaintive bleat of new washed lambs comes faint from far away | H |
And clearly cry the little birds alert and blithe and gay | H |
- | |
O happy happy morning O dear familiar place | I |
O warm sweet tears of Heaven fast falling on my face | I |
O well remembered rainy wind blow all my care away | H |
That I may be a child again this blissful morn of May | H |
