Land-locked Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABBA ACCA DEED FEEF GHHG IJJI

Black lie the hills swiftly doth daylight fleeA
And catching gleams of sunset's dying smileB
Through the dusk land for many a changing mileB
The river runneth softly to the seaA
-
O happy river could I follow theeA
O yearning heart that never can be stillC
O wistful eyes that watch the steadfast hillC
Longing for level line of solemn seaA
-
Have patience here are flowers and songs of birdsD
Beauty and fragrance wealth of sound and sightE
All summer's glory thine from morn till nightE
And life too full of joy for uttered wordsD
-
Neither am I ungrateful but I dreamF
Deliciously how twilight falls to nightE
Over the glimmering water how the lightE
Dies blissfully away until I seemF
-
To feel the wind sea scented on my cheekG
To catch the sound of dusky flapping sailH
And dip of oars and voices on the galeH
Afar off calling low my name they speakG
-
O Earth Thy summer song of joy may soarI
Ringing to heaven in triumph I but craveJ
The sad caressing murmur of the waveJ
That breaks in tender music on the shoreI
