| The snowy winter of his summer prime | B |
| Should a chance sigh or sudden tear drop move | C |
| Thy heart to memory of the olden time | B |
| Turn not to gaze on me with pitying eyes | D |
| Nor mock me with a withered hope renewed | E |
| But from the bower we both have loved arise | D |
| And leave me to my barren solitude | E |
| What boots it that a momentary flame | F |
| Shoots from the ashes of a dying fire | G |
| We gaze upon the hearth from whence it came | F |
