Sonnet I Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis
Rhyme Scheme: AB CDCDEFEFGHIHJJON SEEING THE BUST OF THE YOUNG PRINCESS DE MONTFORT | A |
In the studio of Bartolini at Florence | B |
- | |
SWEET marble I didst thou merely represent | C |
In lieu of her on whom our glances rest | D |
Some common loveliness we were content | C |
As with a modell'd beauty well express'd | D |
But by the very skill which makes thee seem | E |
So like HER bright and intellectual face | F |
The heart is led unsatisfied to dream | E |
For sculpture cannot give the breathing grace | F |
The light which plays beneath that shadowy brow | G |
Like sunshine on the fountains of the south | H |
The blush which tints that cheek with roseate glow | I |
The smile which hovers round that angel mouth | H |
No such the form o'er which Pygmalion sigh'd | J |
Too fair to be complete while SOUL was still denied | J |
