Rhyme Scheme: ABABCDCDE BFBFGHGHE IJIJKLKMN OBOBKPKPN OKOKBQBQNDO you remember all the sunny places | A |
Where in bright days long past we played together | B |
Do you remember all the old home faces | A |
That gathered round the hearth in wintry weather | B |
Do you remember all the happy meetings | C |
In Summer evenings round the open door | D |
Kind looks kind hearts kind words and tender greetings | C |
And clasping hands whose pulses beat no more | D |
Do you remember them | E |
- | |
Do you remember all the merry laughter | B |
The voices round the swing in our old garden | F |
The dog that when we ran still followed after | B |
The teasing frolic sure of speedy pardon | F |
We were but children then young happy creatures | G |
And hardly knew how much we had to lose | H |
But now the dreamlike memory of those features | G |
Comes back and bids my darkened spirit muse | H |
Do you remember them | E |
- | |
Do you remember when we first departed | I |
From all the old companions who were round us | J |
How very soon again we grew light hearted | I |
And talked with smiles of all the links which bound us | J |
And after when our footsteps were returning | K |
With unfelt weariness o'er hill and plain | L |
How our young hearts kept boiling up and burning | K |
To think how soon we'd be at home again | M |
Do you remember this | N |
- | |
Do you remember how the dreams of glory | O |
Kept fading from us like a fairy treasure | B |
How we thought less of being fam'd in story | O |
And more of those to whom our fame gave pleasure | B |
Do you remember in far countries weeping | K |
When a light breeze a flower hath brought to mind | P |
Old happy thoughts which till that hour were sleeping | K |
And made us yearn for those we left behind | P |
Do you remember this | N |
- | |
Do you remember when no sound 'woke gladly | O |
But desolate echoes through our home were ringing | K |
How for a while we talked then paused full sadly | O |
Because our voices bitter thoughts were bringing | K |
Ah me those days those days my friend my brother | B |
Sit down and let us talk of all our woe | Q |
For we have nothing left but one another | B |
Yet where they went old playmate we shall go | Q |
Let us remember this | N |
