Ifs Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis
Rhyme Scheme: ABCDEFEF GHGHIJIJ KLKLMNMN| OH if the winds could whisper what they hear | A |
| When murmuring round at sunset through the grove | B |
| If words were written on the streamlet clear | C |
| So often spoken fearlessly above | D |
| If tell tale stars descending from on high | E |
| Could image forth the thoughts of all that gaze | F |
| Entranced upon that deep cerulean sky | E |
| And count how few think only of their rays | F |
| - | |
| If the lulled heaving ocean could disclose | G |
| All that has passed upon her golden sand | H |
| When the moon lighted waves triumphant rose | G |
| And dashed their spray upon the echoing strand | H |
| If dews could tell how many tears have mixed | I |
| With the bright gem like drops that Nature weeps | J |
| If night could say how many eyes are fixed | I |
| On her dark shadows while creation sleeps | J |
| - | |
| If echo rising from her magic throne | K |
| Repeated with her melody of voice | L |
| Each timid sigh each whispered word and tone | K |
| Which made the hearer's listening heart rejoice | L |
| If Nature could unchecked repeat aloud | M |
| All she hath heard and seen must hear and see | N |
| Where would the whispering vowing sighing crowd | M |
| Of lovers and their blushing partners be | N |
