Escape From The Snares Of Love Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: AABB CDE FFGG HHI JJKK LLEI MMNN

YOUNG LOVE has chains of metal rareA
Heavy as gold yet light as airA
It chanced he caught a heart one dayB
Which struggled hard as loth to stayB
-
Prudence poor thing was lingering nearC
She whispered in the captive's earD
'Cease little flutterer bear thy chainE
And soon thou shalt be free again '-
-
No I assert my right to flyF
The chain shall break and Love shall dieF
What I remain a willing slaveG
No freedom freedom or the graveG
-
Meanwhile Love slumbered by his prizeH
His languid limbs and closing eyesH
Prudence beheld she spoke againI
'Oh yet a moment bear thy chain '-
-
Unheeded prayer the struggling heartJ
Strove still the slender links to partJ
While timid Prudence gazed and sighedK
Weary of strife and loth to chideK
-
One moment more the links had brokeL
But slumbering Love alarmed awokeL
With iron rivets bound the chainE
And turned secure to sleep againI
-
Let hearts which now in bondage weepM
Repose till wearied Love shall sleepM
Oh struggle not lest he should wakeN
Slip off the chain it will not breakN
