Venice Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCD EEFF GHIH JGKG LMNM OPQP

The clatter of a cloudy paneA
Awoke me in the small hoursB
It hung in a gondola rankC
And vacancy weighed on the oarsD
-
The trident of hushed guitarsE
Was hanging like Scorpio s starsE
Above a marine horizonF
Untouched by the smoking sunF
-
In the domain of the zodiacG
The chord was a lonely soundH
Untroubled below by the tridentI
The port moved its mists aroundH
-
At some time the earth had split offJ
Capsized palaces gone to wrackG
A fortress loomed up like a planetK
Like a planet houses spun backG
-
And the secret of life without rootL
I understood as the day surfacedM
My dreams and my eyes had more roomN
To grope on their own through the mistM
-
And like the foam of mad blossomO
And like the foam of rabid lipsP
Among glimmering shadows broke looseQ
The chord that knew no fingertipsP
