The Road Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCB DEFE CGCG HIJI KLMN OPQR

Down into the ravine then forwardA
Up the embankment to the topB
The ribbon of the road runs snakingC
Through wood and field without a stopB
-
By all the precepts of perspectiveD
Well surfaced highway windings rushE
Among the fields among the meadowsF
Not raising dust nor stuck in slushE
-
The peaceful pond nearby ignoringC
On which a duck with ducklings swamG
The road once more is forward soaringC
On having crossed and left the damG
-
Now down a slope again it hastensH
Now on and upwards in a climbI
As only life maybe is meant toJ
Strain up and onward all the timeI
-
Through thousands of unheard of fanciesK
Through times and countries climb and fallL
Through helps and hindrances it racesM
Relentless too towards a goalN
-
And this is to have lived your fullestO
Experienced all at home abroadP
Just as the landscape now is livenedQ
By twists and turnings of the roadR
