A house of unimagined beautyA
Is set in parkland cool and darkB
Gates with an arch then meadows hillocksC
And oats and woods beyond the parkB
-
Here with their crowns each other hidingD
Enormous linden trees engageE
In dusky quiet celebrationF
Of their two hundred years of ageE
-
And underneath their vaulted branchesC
Across the regularly drawnG
Symmetric avenues grow flowersC
In flower beds upon a lawnG
-
Beneath the trees on sandy pathwaysC
Not one bright spot relieves the darkB
Save like an opening in a tunnelH
The distant entrance of the parkB
-
But now the blossom time is startingD
The walled in linden trees revealI
And spread about within their shadowJ
Their irresistible appealI
-
The visitors in summer clothingD
While walking on the crunchy sandK
Breathe in unfathomable fragranceC
Which only bees can understandK
-
This gripping scent is theme and subjectL
Whereas however well they lookM
The flower beds the lawn the gardenF
Are but the cover of a bookM
-
The clustered wax bespattered flowersC
On massive trees sedate and oldN
Lit up by raindrops burn and sparkleH
Above the mansion they enfoldN
