Ploughing Time Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis
Rhyme Scheme: ABCB DEFE GHHH IJEJ| What is the matter with the landscape | A |
| Familiar landmarks are not there | B |
| Ploughed fields like squares upon a chessboard | C |
| Today are scattered everywhere | B |
| - | |
| The newly harrowed vast expanses | D |
| So evenly are spread about | E |
| As though the valley had been spring cleaned | F |
| Or else the mountains flattened out | E |
| - | |
| And that same day in one endeavour | G |
| Outside the furrows every tree | H |
| Bursts into leaf light green and downy | H |
| And stretches skyward tall and free | H |
| - | |
| No speck of dust on the new maples | I |
| And colours nowhere are as clean | J |
| As is the light grey of the ploughland | E |
| And as the silver birch's green | J |
