On The Steamer Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCB DEFG HIJK LMLN OPQP RSQT QUUU VWXW ABCB UYZY

The stir of leaves the chilly morning airA
Were like delirium half awakeB
Jaws clamped the dawn beyond the Kama glaredC
Blue as the plumage of a drakeB
-
There was a clattering of crockeryD
A yawning steward taking stockE
And in the depth as high as candlesticksF
Within the river glow worms flockedG
-
They hung from streets along the waterfrontH
A scintillating string it chimedI
Three times the steward with a napkin triedJ
To scratch away some candle grimeK
-
Like a grey rumour crawling from the pastL
A mighty epic of the reedsM
With ripples in the beads of street lamps fastL
Towards Perm the Kama ran upon a breezeN
-
Choking on waves and almost drowning butO
Still swimming on beyond the boatP
A star kept diving and resurfacingQ
An icon's shining light afloatP
-
A smell of paint mixed with the galley smellsR
And on the Kama all alongS
The twilight drifted secrets gatheringQ
With not a splash it drifted onT
-
A glass in hand your pupils narrowingQ
You watched the slips of tongue performU
A whirling play on words at suppertimeU
But were not drawn into their swarmU
-
You called your partner to old happeningsV
To waves of days before your dayW
To plunge in them a final residueX
Of the last drop and fade awayW
-
The stir of leaves in chilly morning airA
Was like delirium half awakeB
One yawned the east beyond the Kama glaredC
Blue as the plumage of a drakeB
-
And like a bloodbath now the morning cameU
A flaming flood of oil to drownY
The steamer's gaslights in the stateroom andZ
The waning street lamps of the townY
