On A Fateful Day, An Unlucky Time Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCB CDEF GHBI JKHL MNOP QKKK RST CKCK CUVW

On a fateful day an unlucky timeA
Unannounced it may happen thusB
Stifling blacker still than a monasteryC
Utter madness descends on usB
-
Bitter frost The night as a decencyC
Is observing the icy coldD
In an armchair the ghost mumbles on and onE
Still the same in his winter coatF
-
And the branch outside and the parquet floorG
And his cheek and the poker's shadeH
All are shot with repentance and sleepinessB
Of the blizzard that raved night and dayI
-
Now the night is calm Bright and frosty nightJ
Like a puppy suckling still blindK
With the whole of their darkness the palisadeH
Drinks the sparkle of stars through the pinesL
-
Seems it drips from them Seems they're glimmeringM
Seems the night is brimming with waxN
And the pad of one fir warms another padO
And one hollow traces the nextP
-
Seems this stillness this height's an elegiac waveQ
A concern of a soul for a mindK
The expectancy after an anxious 'respond'K
Or an echo of different kindK
-
Seems it's dumb this enquiring of needles and treesR
And the height is too deaf or too blueS
And the shine on the frozen swerve of the road'sT
A reply to that pleading 'Helloooo '-
-
Bitter frost The night as a decencyC
Is observing the icy coldK
In his armchair the ghost mumbles endlesslyC
Still the same in his winter coatK
-
Oh his lips he is squeezing them horriblyC
Face in hands shaking ready to chokeU
Whirls of clues for the gifted biographerV
In this pattern as dead as chalkW
