Oh Terrible, Beloved! A Poet's Loving Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABAB CDCE FGHG IGIG JJFJ AKAK JLJM

Oh terrible beloved A poet's lovingA
Is a restless god's passionate rageB
And chaos out into the world comes creepingA
As in the ancient fossil ageB
-
His eyes weep him mist by the tonC
Enveloped in tears he is mammoth likeD
Out of fashion He knows it must not be doneC
Ages have passed he does not know whyE
-
He sees wedding parties all aroundF
Drunken unions celebrated unawareG
Common frogspawn found in every pondH
Ritually adorned as precious caviareG
-
Like some Watteau pearl how cleverlyI
A snuffbox embraces all life's matterG
And vengeance is wreaked on him probablyI
Because where they distort and flatterG
-
Where simpering comfort lies and fawnsJ
Where they rub idle shoulders crawl like dronesJ
He will raise your sister from the groundF
Use her like a bacchante from the Grecian urnsJ
-
And pour into his kiss the Andes' meltingA
And morning in the steppe under the swayK
Of dusted stars as night's pallid bleatingA
Bustles about the village on its wayK
-
And the botanical vestry's dense blacknessJ
And all the ravine's age old breathL
Waft over the ennui of the stuffed mattressJ
And the forest's ancient chaos spurts forthM
