Music Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCB DEDE DBDD DFDA GAHA IAJB DJDJ DJJJ DBJB

The block of flats loomed towerlikeA
Two sweating athletes human telpherB
Were carrying up narrow stairsC
As though a bell onto a belfryB
-
As to a stony tablelandD
The tables of the law with cautionE
A huge and heavy concert grandD
Above the city's restless oceanE
-
At last it stands on solid groundD
While deep below the din and clatterB
Are damped as though the town were drownedD
Sunk to the bottom of a legendD
-
The tenant of the topmost flatD
Looks down on earth over the railingsF
As if he held it in his handD
Its lawful ruler never failingA
-
Back in the drawing room he startsG
To play not someone else's musicA
But his own thought a new choraleH
The stir of leaves Hosannas boomingA
-
Improvisations sweep and pealI
Bring night flames fire barrels rollingA
Trees under downpour rumbling wheelsJ
Life of the streets fate of the lonelyB
-
Thus Chopin would at night insteadD
Of the outgrown naive and artlessJ
Write down on the black fretwork standD
His soaring dream his new departuresJ
-
Or overtaking in their flightD
The world by many generationsJ
Valkyries shake the city roofsJ
By thunderous reverberationsJ
-
Or through the lovers' tragic fateD
Amidst infernal crash and thunderB
Tchaikovsky harrowed us to tearsJ
And rent the concert hall asunderB

william glynne hughes: I love this poem, very much in Boris Pasternaks simplified verse.
I can see the seen and I can hear the music.
To be decided whether Scriabin is included.
Boris Pasternak is one of my favourite Russian Poets.
Sometimes I listen to his voice and the music he composed.
