In The Wood Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCB DEFE GHIH JKLM NOGP EQER

Blurred by a lilac heat the meadowsA
in the wood cathedral shadows swirledB
What on earth was left for them to kiss SoC
like wax soft in the fingers theirs the worldB
-
There s a dream you do not sleep you onlyD
dream you long for sleep someone s dozingE
two black suns are beating under eyelidsF
burning eyelashes while he s slumberingE
-
-
Sunbeams play Iridescent beetles flow byG
dragon flies glass skims over his cheekH
With tiny scintillations the wood s aliveI
like those the clockmakers tweezers seekH
-
It seems he slept to the tick of figuresJ
while in acid amber ether over his headK
the hands of a carefully tested clock quiverL
regulated precisely by tremors of heatM
-
They calibrate they shake the pinesN
scatter the shadow exhaust and pierceO
the darkness of timber raised up highG
in the day s fatigue on the blue clock faceP
-
It seems a primal happiness was settingE
it seems the wood was sunk in sunlit dreamQ
Happy folk don t spend time clock watchingE
but this pair were only sleeping it seemsR
