Feasts Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABAB CDEF GAGA HAHI

I drink the gall of skies in autumn tuberoses'A
Sweet bitterness in your betrayals burning streamB
I drink the gall of nights of crowded parties' noisesA
Of sobbing virgin verse and of a throbbing dreamB
-
We fiends of studious fight a battle everlastingC
Against our daily bread can't stand the sober moodD
The troubled wind of nights is merely a toastmasterE
Whose toasts as like as not will do no one much goodF
-
Heredity and death are our guests at tableG
A quiet dawn will paint bright red the tops of treesA
An anapaest like mice will on the bread plate scrabbleG
And Cinderella will rush in to change her dressA
-
The floors have all been swept and everything is daintyH
And like a child's sweet kiss breathes quietly my verseA
And Cinderella flees by cab on days of plentyH
And on shanks' pony when the last small coin is lostI
