False Alarm Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCB DECF GFHF DFFF CIJI FECK JLFL

From early morning nonsenseA
With tubs and troughs and strainB
With dampness in the eveningC
And sunsets in the rainB
-
Deep sighing of the darknessD
And choking swallowed tearsE
A railway engine's callingC
Down from the sixteenth verstF
-
Outside and in the gardenG
A short fast darkening dayF
Small breakages and lossesH
In true September wayF
-
In daytime autumn's vastnessD
Beyond the stream is rentF
By wailing in the graveyardF
By anguish and lamentF
-
But when the widow's sobbingC
Is carried from the bankI
With all my blood I'm with herJ
And see my death point blankI
-
As every year I see itF
Out of the hall downstairsE
The long delayed approachingC
Of this my final yearK
-
Through leaves in yellow terrorJ
Its way swept clear I seeL
That winter from the hillsideF
Is staring down at meL
