On winter pavements I will poundA
Them down with glistening glass and sunB
Will let the ceiling hear their soundA
Damp corners read them one by oneB
-
The attic will repeat my themesC
And bow to winter with my linesD
And send leapfrogging to the beamsC
Bad luck and oddities and signsD
-
Snow will not monthly sweep and fallE
And cover up beginnings endsF
One day I'll suddenly recallE
The sun exists Will see new trendsF
-
Will see the world is not the sameG
Then Christmas jackdaw like will blinkH
And with a frosty day explainI
What we my love and I should thinkH
-
The window halves I'll throw apartJ
In muffler from the cold to hideK
And call to children in the yardL
'What century is it outside '-
-
Who trod a trail towards the doorM
The hole blocked up with sleet and snowN
The while I smoked with Byron orM
Was having drinks with Edgar PoeN
-
While known in Darial or hellO
Or armoury as friend I dippedP
Like Lermontov's deep thrill as wellO
My life in vermouth as my lipsQ
