This laboring vast Tellurian GalleonA
Riding at anchor off the orient sunA
Had broken its cable and stood out to spaceB
-
FRANCIS THOMPSONA
-
-
Galleon ahoy ahoyC
Old earth riding off the sunA
And straining at your cable as you rideD
On the tideD
Battered laboring and vastE
In the blastE
Of the hurricane that blows between the worldsF
AhoyC
-
'Morning shipmates 'Drift and chartlessF
Laded deep and rolling hardG
Never guessed outworn and heartlessF
There was land so close aboardH
-
Ice on every shroud and eyeletI
Rocking in the windy troughJ
No more panic Man's your pilotI
Turns the flood and we are offJ
-
At the story of disasterK
From the continents of sleepL
I am come to be your masterK
And put out into the deepL
-
What tide current struck you hitherK
Beating up the storm of yearsF
Where are those who stood to weatherK
These uncharted gulfs of tearsF
-
Did your fellows all drive underK
In the maelstrom of the sunA
While you only for a wonderK
Rode the wash you could not shunA
-
We'll crowd sail across the sea lineM
Clear this harbor reef and buoyN
Bowling down an open bee lineM
For the latitudes of joyC
-
Till beyond the zones of sorrowO
Past griefs haven in the nightP
Some large simpler world shall morrowO
This pale region's northern lightP
-
Not a fear but all the sea roomQ
Wherein time is but a bayR
Yet shall sparkle for our lee roomQ
In the vast Altrurian dayR
-
And the dauntless seaworn spiritI
Shall awake to know there areS
What dominions to inheritI
Anchored off another starS
