In The Wings Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCDC EFGF HIJI KCLC MNON PQRQ

TheA
play is Life and this round earthB
The narrow stage whereonC
We act before an audienceD
Of actors dead and goneC
-
There is a figure in the wingsE
That never goes awayF
And though I cannot see his faceG
I shudder while I playF
-
His shadow looms behind me hereH
Or capers at my sideI
And when I mouth my lines in dreadJ
Those scornful lips derideI
-
Sometimes a hooting laugh breaks outK
And startles me aloneC
While all my fellows wonderingL
At my stage fright play onC
-
I fear that when my Exit comesM
I shall encounter thereN
Stronger than fate or time or loveO
And sterner than despairN
-
The Final Critic of the craftP
As stage tradition tellsQ
And yet perhaps 'twill only beR
The jester with his bellsQ
