Hack And Hew Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCB DEFE GHIH JKLK MNON KPQP AMEM RSFT UKLK

Hack and Hew were the sons of GodA
In the earlier earth than nowB
One at his right hand one at his leftC
To obey as he taught them howB
-
And Hack was blind and Hew was dumbD
But both had the wild wild heartE
And God's calm will was their burning willF
And the gist of their toil was artE
-
They made the moon and the belted starsG
They set the sun to rideH
They loosed the girdle and veil of the seaI
The wind and the purple tideH
-
Both flower and beast beneath their handsJ
To beauty and speed outgrewK
The furious fumbling hand of HackL
And the glorying hand of HewK
-
Then fire and clay they fashioned a manM
And painted him rosy brownN
And God himself blew hard in his eyesO
Let them burn till they smoulder downN
-
And There said Hack and There thought HewK
We'll rest for our toil is doneP
But Nay the Master Workman saidQ
For your toil is just begunP
-
And ye who served me of old as GodA
Shall serve me anew as manM
Till I compass the dream that is in my heartE
And perfect the vaster planM
-
And still the craftsman over his craftR
In the vague white light of dawnS
With God's calm will for his burning willF
While the mounting day comes onT
-
Yearning wind swift indolent wildU
Toils with those shadowy twoK
The faltering restless hand of HackL
And the tireless hand of HewK
