When Norway Would Not Help Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABCDCDEFEFGHGH IJIJKLKLFMFMNONO PQPQRSRS

When Kattegat now or the Belt you sailA
No more will you sightB
The Danish proud frigate no more will you hailA
The red and whiteB
No more will the ringing command be heardC
In Wessel's tongueD
No rollicking music no jocund wordC
'Neath Dannebrog sungD
No dance will you see no laughter meetE
As the white sails shineF
From mast and from stern no garland you greetE
Of arts the signF
But all that we owned of the treasures on boardG
The deeps now holdH
One sad winter night to the sea waves were pouredG
Our memories oldH
-
It was that same night when the frigate nighI
To Norway's landJ
Distress guns was firing the surf running highI
With sea weed and sandJ
To help from the harbor men put out boatsK
But they turn backL
The frigate toward Germany drifting floatsK
A broken wrackL
What once had been ours overboard was strownF
Each kinship markM
Was quickly removed to the sea it was thrownF
With curses starkM
The Northern lion that figure head grayN
Now had to fallO
In pieces 'twas hewn and the frigate layN
Like a shattered wallO
-
Repaired and refitted its canvas it spreadP
Near Germany's coastQ
With black yellow flag and an eagle dreadP
In the lion's postQ
When sailing we Kattegat sweep with our eyesR
'T is still evermoreS
But a German admiral's frigate liesR
Near Scania's shoreS
