Venevil Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: AABB BBBB CCDDDBBB EEEEE FFFFF GGHHH CCIII BBBBBBBB

Fair Venevil hastened with tripping feetA
Her lover to meetA
He sang so it rang o'er the church far awayB
Good day Good dayB
-
And all the little birds sang right merrily their layB
Midsummer DayB
Brings us laughter and playB
But later know I little if she twines her wreath so gayB
-
She twined him a wreath of the flowers blueC
My eyes for youC
He tossed it and caught it and to her did bendD
Good by my friendD
And loudly he exulted at the field's far distant endD
Midsummer DayB
Brings us laughter and playB
But later know I little if she twines her wreath so gayB
-
She twined him a wreath Do at all you careE
For my golden hairE
She twined one and gave in life's hour so rareE
Her red lips' pairE
He took them and he pressed them and he blushed as she did thereE
-
She twined one all white as a lily bandF
'T is my right handF
She twined one blood red with her love in each strandF
'T is my left handF
He took them both and kept them both but would not understandF
-
She twined of the flowers that bloomed aroundG
Every one I foundG
She gathered and twined while tears would her eyes fillH
Take them you willH
In silence then he took them but to flight he turned him stillH
-
She twined one so large of discordant hueC
My bride's wreath trueC
She twined it and twined till her fingers were soreI
Crown me I imploreI
But when she turned he was not there she never saw him moreI
-
She twined yet undaunted without a stayB
At her bride's arrayB
But now it was long past the Midsummer DayB
All the flowers awayB
She twined it of the flowers though they all were now awayB
Midsummer DayB
Brings us laughter and playB
But later know I little if she twines her wreath so gayB
