To Aasmund Olafsen Vinje (sung At His Wife's Grave) Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABCCCB BDBDEFEB GHGHIIIJ FFKFBBBF LBLBIIIJ

Your house to guests has shelter lentA
While you with pen were seatedB
In silent quest they came and wentA
You saw them not nor greetedB
But when now theyC
Were gone awayC
Your babe without a mother layC
And you had lost your helpmateB
-
The home you built but yesterdayB
In death to day is sinkingD
And you stand sick and worn and grayB
On ruins of your thinkingD
Your way lay bareE
Since child you wereF
The shelter that you first could shareE
Was this that now is shatteredB
-
But know the guests that to you cameG
In sorrow's waste will meet youH
Though shy you shrink they still will claimG
The right with love to treat youH
For where you goI
To you they showI
The world in radiant light aglowI
Of great and wondrous visionsJ
-
What once you saw now passing o'erF
Will but be made the clearerF
It is the far eternal shoreK
That on your way draws nearerF
Your poet sightB
Will see in lightB
All that the clouds have wrapped in nightB
Great doubts will find an answerF
-
And later when you leave againL
The waste of woe thought pregnantB
Whom you have met shall teach us thenL
Your pen in power regnantB
From sorrow's wealI
With purer zealI
Inspiring light and pain's appealI
Shall shine your wondrous visionsJ
