Synnove's Song Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Have thanks for all from our childhood's dayA
Our play together in woodland roamingB
I thought that play would go on for ayeC
Though life should pass to its gloamingB
-
I thought that play would go on for ayeC
From bowers leading of leafy birchesD
To where the Solbakke houses layA
And where the red painted church isD
-
I sat and waited through evenings longE
And scanned the ridge with the spruces yonderF
But darkening mountains made shadows throngE
And you the way did not wanderF
-
I sat and waited with scarce a doubtG
He'll dare the way when the sun's descendedH
The light shone fainter was nearly outG
The day in darkness had endedH
-
My weary eye is so wont to gazeD
To turn its look it is slow in learningB
No other landmark it seeks nor straysD
Beneath the brow sorely burningB
-
They name a place where I help may findI
And fain to Fagerli church would guide meJ
But try not thither to move my mindI
He sits there ever beside meJ
-
But good it is that full well I knowK
Who placed the houses both here and yonderF
Then cut a way through the woods so lowK
And let my eye on it wanderF
-
But good it is that full well I knowK
Who built the church and to pray invitedH
And made them meeting in pairs to goK
Before the altar unitedH
