Wergeland's statue on May seventeenthA
Saw the procession And as its rear guardB
Slow marching massesC
Strong men and women with flower decked presenceD
Come now the peasants come now the peasantsE
-
sterdal's forest's magnificent chieftainF
Bore the old banner Soon as we see itG
Blood red upliftedH
Greet it the thousands in thought of its storyI
That is our glory that is our gloryI
-
Never that lion bore crown that was foreignF
Never that cloth was by Dannebrog clovenF
I saw theJ
futureK
-
When with that banner by Wergeland's columnF
Peasants stood solemn peasants stood solemnF
-
Most of our loss in the times that have vanishedL
Most of our victories most of our longingM
Most that is vitalN
Deeds of the past and the future's bold daringM
Peasants are bearing peasants are bearingM
-
Sorely they suffered for sins once committedO
But they arise now Here in the StortingM
Stalwart they prove itG
All as they come from our land's every regionF
Peasants Norwegian peasants NorwegianF
-
Hold what they won with a will to go fartherK
Whole we must have independence and honorK
All of us know itG
Wergeland's summer bears soon its best flowerK
Power in peasants peasants in powerK
